I went in September for a wedding and I was disappointed by the service which was not very good as no one knew how to help up at all! Also not to mention the bride and her mother wanted to drop off baskets to there guest and the hotel said no saying there was no room even thought looking around the lobby there was. The room was nice but I will say this is not a place I would stay I would not recommend it!!! The location is nice though but the hotel certainly was quirky.

I was disappointed in our stay. When you met someone from the staff they were friendly but the overall service was terrible. Itâs automated and while a response would be pretty quick the execution was nonexistent. I was there 3 nights and asked for fresh towels early the second day and they never arrived. I asked several times, too. The room and elevator code was hit or miss. Older family members had a really hard time. There were no vending machines or sundry area and no water bottles, even for purchase. Parking was valet for $25 a day or park down the street for a trek. I wouldnât stay again nor would I recommend it. The highlight was the cafe next door. The food and coffee were delicious and the service was great.

There is no front desk staff - just a code that automatically activates at 4pm check-in. We arrived to our room at 4:15 and it had not been cleaned yet from the last guest. We were told to wait in the lobby. No apology, no acknowledgement of the frustrating circumstances. Also, so many guests were having trouble with their virtual codes. You canât use the elevator without entering a code, so the wait times were ridiculous because peopleâs codes werenât working.

We booked and stayed here knowing it had been bought and refurnished from the Quirk to the Doyle. I have previously stayed at the Quirk and really loved my experience, so I was thrilled to go back. I did not quite grasp ahead of time the implications of a fully digital check in/check out, and the new operating model for the Doyle. Though the pricing is a bit lower per night for the Doyle - it has led to a drastic decrease in quality from the little comforts of a hotel to the larger infrastructural issues. We started our stay by going to the room we were assigned via our online check in, and after trying the code many times and being rejected, I had to turn around and find an employee to help us - turns out, the app was telling us fully a completely different room than what they had in the system. We had been trying to enter a room that easily could have been occupied. We were tired, fresh off the road, and that was really disappointing. The building is literally the Quirk with different signage. The art in our "Doyle Suite" still said Quirk on it, the decor has not changed, and the place clearly hasn't had a fresh coat of paint since ownership switched. We also were told there was no housekeeping available for our stay via the app - which is quite frankly one of the points of booking a hotel vs. an Airbnb. The rooftop bar was still nice, though we couldn't charge our bill back to our room, which was inconvenient at worst. There was no one at the front desk to help us with recommendations for the area, and the valet (though speedy) was often very difficult to find. I felt a bit less safe with less staff around in a hotel in the middle of downtown, too. Overall, I will not be going back. I don't blame this on the staff on site but instead the clear decrease in quality casued by cutting the bottom line at a property that formerly offered such a hospitable experience. It can really now be described as a glorified Airbnb. I would recommend staying elsewhere if you are expecting the comforts of a hotel.

Matt is so helpful every time we come to Charlottesville, which has been a few times the last month. He is always so accommodating to our family and our 4 month old daughter. Thank you Matt and the Doyle hotel for making our trips super effective.
