Our family had the best time at The Hotel Texan! We arrived in the middle of the night because all of the hotels in the area were completely booked. Gareth was so welcoming and accommodating for our big family. He made us feel like family from the moment we walked in the door. The hotels rooms feel so homey, almost like you’re staying at a family members house. The hotel is very quaint and historic too, which gives it a unique feel. The kids got to feed the coy fish in the morning and had the best breakfast! Gareth even surprised them with special drink boxes! We loved our stay here and highly recommend it! If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely be back!

I only call this a "hidden gem" because it is is the tiny town of Seagraves TX, and there is not a lot to do in the immediate area. We drove from DFW to Lubbock to pick up our daughter on the way to Carlsbad Caverns. We had planned to stay here because it was approximately half-way from Lubbock to Carlsbad (actually closer to 1/3 of the way), and this was a great find! It's an old hotel that is being restored. I think there are 8 or 9 rooms upstairs, and currently none downstairs, although they said they have plans to open one or more rooms downstairs. Each room has a private bathroom, and most (or maybe all) are a "suite-style" room with a separate sitting area. We had a total of seven adults/teens in our travel party, so we selected the option to rent out the entire hotel, giving everyone their own private room, and we all loved it! The downstairs has a nice lobby area in front of the check-in desk, where they display this historic registry, which I saw dating back to 1921! There is a large eating area with available kitchen equipment and a good breakfast included in the cost of the rooms. It is possibly a haunted hotel, with reports of a young girl walking the hall or bouncing a ball upstairs. This is part of what attracted us to this hotel, but sadly we did not encounter her. The proprieter of this family owned hotel was temporarily out of town, so we were assisted by his niece, Shenandoah, who was the only person we encountered during our stay; is it possible she is actually the ghost known to haunt the hotel? If so, then she was literally the most friendly ghost of all time, even beating out the legendary Casper the Friendly Ghost! Haunted or not, I highly recommend the Hotel Texan. If we ever head west of Lubbock again we will definitely stay here!

Wow, this place is a gem! We love historic hotels and quirky B&Bs, so this was right up our alley. While the rooms are charming, it's the hospitality that makes the stay so special. Both the owner, Gareth, and his father are wonderful. We enjoyed our chats with them, and it's that personal service and attention that make this place so special.

This is a wonderful historic hotel in a small Texas town with lots of history. Don's miss the area. Very comfortable and the owner will go out of his way to help. I will definitely stay here again. What a unique find!

I took a 30 mile detour (60 round trip) to experience this historic hotel. I was concerned that it would be crazy expensive when I was told it was a two room suite with private bath ... no! I was there mid-week and caught a special off the $99 regular rate. The building has a few "scars", but that is to be expected due to its age and comeback from abandoned status. The owner, Gareth, is very friendly and willing to talk of the hotel's history. The rooms were clean and comfortable, though I had to wait a touch for the shower to get hot. The dining area has a Keurig coffee maker, small fridge with juice, and a few snacks available at any time. Main Street Pizza & Ice Cream next door also gives a discount to hotel guests. The meatball sub I had was very good.
