The street noise in front of the hotel is terrible! There was a train running behind the hotel also. You can't get any sleep at all. The rooms are very small. The breakfast is a joke. They don't have tea bags nor milk for your instant oatmeal. You can get a muffin or an apple! They charge a 3% surcharge for paying for your room with a credit card also! First hotel I ever stayed at to do this. Yet they take no other form of payment! Don't stay here! I requested a call from the manager and was told they were not available. Stay away from hotels in Dayton Tennessee!

The "good" first. Clean No bugs New. The rest of the story. We have stayed at the Best Western in town for the past 20-30 years when seeing relatives in Dayton. Since it (Best Western) was getting really worn looking we figured we would try out the new and shiny toy up the street. Mistake. We haven't always stayed with a pet at the Best Western, but have quite often, and this Econolodge was listed as Pet Friendly. It is under the Choice Hotels brand so we used the Choice Hotels website to book this room, AFTER calling locally and asking about our small dog. We also selected a "pet" room from the website. We paid in advance. When we arrived late Monday evening Mar 20 we checked in and had to sign a long form stating what we could and could not allow our dog to do. At this point I'm still OK. At the bottom of the form we sign for the $25 highly pet fee. It was supposedly listed in the "notes" section of the web site. Mind you we paid up front at the Choice Hotels web site, not a thread party hotel site, and were billed for our "total fee." Yet it did not include this pet fee.Suddenly our $65 highly fee ($76 with taxes/fees) was $100+. Mind you we stated in our on line notes we had a pet, and in each phone call we did. Before accepting the room I said I was going to check down the street at the Best Western as they normally did not charge us that fee, but was reminded we already owed the first day's fee and since we were inside 24 hours notice for the second day we would forfeit the second day, too. So we gave up and stayed there and chalked it up to a lesson learned. AT least it was a nice, new, safe hotel with a nice breakfast. We got in our room and discovered that since we had a pet we had to stay in the motel side in the back. The "motel" side is outside access. Grr. I will freely admit we have not had pets in hotels (this is a new pet in our old age as we had lost 3 dogs in a row a few years ago and did not want to go through that again) so this may be normal for all hotels that accept pets nowadays. I then dropped the luggage in the room with a King bed before walking the dog.We normally do not request a king but figured with one less bed it would give us more room to move around. Tis was the absolute smallest room we had ever been in, including what we had in Germany in the 80's when we were military. The flooring was vinyl wood-looking and had a piece peeled up that my wife and I kept tripping over so we asked the front desk to fix it and they did. Was hoping they would glue it. They cut the bad piece off. Ick. The back of the hotel has a somewhat of an attempt at a privacy fence, but does not hide the salvage yard with junked cars and such. The strip of grass that runs the length of the back of the hotel has maybe 1 foot of width before sloping down to a drainage ditch a few feet below, so it was unusable. The other end of the hotel by the office was mud and I'm not sure it was even hotel property so I went to the end opposite of the office. It was a minimal walking area with pretty much dead grass but I could not use this area at night (I was gone during the day) as there were road crew construction workers staying each night and having an ongoing beer party every night). I mostly used the embankment running the length of the front of the hotel, but most of this was at a 45 degree angle and unworkable and the little red at the top that was ran immediately beside Highway 27, which was extremely busy, loud and dangerous. One of the three light bulbs above the sink was out on Day 1 and I asked the same day for a spare and I would replace (which would require standing on the well built counter to replace it from above). They replaced it during the day on day 2 or 3 after everyone telling me they would have to wait for the manager to find out where the spare bulbs were. While it was replaced, the ones that were working were very bright daylight, probably 5000K bulbs, while the one they replaced was one more like a 2700K, yellowish lamp. Not much good for shaving. I will include some pictures of the "Continental Breakfast." I have not seen anything so skimpy since the height of COVID. I have enjoyed most true Continental Breakfast services I have been offered, although I normally try to find one with "Hot Breakfast". "Continental Breakfast": light option typically consisting of pastries and baked goods, fruits, toast, and coffee. It is usually served buffet-style and modeled after the European help-yourself breakfast, similar to what one would enjoy in France or in the Med. Have seen many that offered fresh fruit, like pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries, oranges, etc. Also choices of cereal with fresh milk. Multiple pastry offerings and baked goods such as Croissants. This one consisted of (one morning) wrapped apples, wrapped white bread slices, a toaster, packaged oatmeal for microwaving, packaged jelly/jam, machined coffee, and machined apple juice and OJ. One type of wrapped muffin, if you arrived the first hour breakfast is served. Plastic silverware and styrofoam bowls. The coffee was good. Machined fruit juices not so much. What was not provided: butter or margarine for the toast on any of the four mornings. Any type of plates (except day 4). No assorted pastries. No cereal. No milk. So, $100+ each night for this "bargain". It was new. I will definitely go back to the Best Western in a couple months when we return. Yes it looks beat up from the road, but the last time we stayed there in 2021 the rooms were nice, and much larger. And the breakfast always included some fresh selections as well as make-your-own waffles. I understand they allow the pets without the fee (we only have one small 19 pound puppy), but even if they bill for the pet now it will be a better breakfast and larger room. And I don't sleep on the outside so don't care what it looks like. I did try to review this on the Choice Hotels website, but discovered you only can review upon invitation. And that now explains to me why the reviews for the Econolodge were so very high and why I chose it. Not again. I've stayed at Choice Hotels while driving across country to California and again back across country on my return from California and was never let down before. There is always a first time.

Good but not great. Room was clean, no fan in the bathroom/shower to properly vent it. Tile floors throughout the room. Complimentary "breakfast" left a LOT to be desired. Small muffins, mix it yourself oatmeal and coffee/juice machines don't cut it.

We stayed here for 3 nights on a college visit. It was wonderful...clean, well maintained, new, quiet. Check in/out was fast and everyone behind the desk was courteous and kind. Our room was a king suite with a roll-out couch. The room was clean and spacious. The only issue was the A/C unit leaked (we reported it on our checkout as we did not want to lose our room!). The floor is not carpeted but was quite warm. We never had any issues during our stay. We did not hear any traffic. This was one of the nicest Choice properties we have stayed in and we travel a great deal. We would highly recommend this hotel. We will be staying here each time we are in the area!
