We visited The Hungry Trout while we were staying in Wilmington for Christmas. We arrived at 7:30. PM , no reservation and five people. We were quickly greeted and brought to our table. Casey was our waitress and we had a lot of fun together. She got everyone’s order correct without writing things down. We ordered the duck wings(drums) as an appetizer! They were delicious! Three of us ordered the trout, all different styles. Crowd favorite there! I had the beef Stroganoff, so yummy and Tuscan penne with chicken . Everything came out fast and correct. The added attention, conversation and general nice attitude by Casey made the whole visit really good. I would definitely go back when in the area.

Had a wonderful Meal at the restaurant no complaints there! The room… the bed was so hard it’s triggered my sciatica and the pain is tremendous! The rooms in general need cleaning and updating. This bar/pub was closed. Not a great visit for my first experience!

My husband and I stayed at the Hungry Trout Resort for our anniversary. We love the Adirondacks and wanted a quiet get away while doing some hiking. This place fit our needs perfectly. There’s a short trail out back leading to the AuSable River and wonderful views front and back. . We stayed in a suite so we could utilize the stove and refrigerator. There was a Keurig coffee maker with two types of Kcups and the office had more if needed. I wished there had been a toaster too. We loved the electronic door key. You just use the last 4 digit of your phone number and the pound sign. The staff was very friendly and the room was very clean. As stated in other reviews it was a bit dated but it seemed they were slowly making upgrades. The bed was comfortable and we couldn’t hear any neighbors. Their restaurant is top notch, especially if you can get a window view. We will defiantly return.

I stayed with a family of 5. This is basic accommodation with very limited facilities. The room was cramped and the beds far too soft. The windows (including the bathroom) are covered by poorly functioning blinds which do not provide complete privacy. I had to fix a towel over the bathroom window to provide the necessary coverage. WiFi coverage is extremely weak. The pool is good however there were rarely enough towels available. We did not eat in the restaurant however the menu looked interesting with many fish based dishes and it seemed popular when open. The bar is excellent with delicious local beers and Brad's service was very helpful. Location is beautiful beside a stream and we had spectacular views of the milk way in the clear night skies. The overall rating however is for the accommodation which really wasn't what we had expected and is overpriced for what was offered. Also room service is very limited and no personal engagement with the management was provided. This is not a resort. It is a basic motel place to have a rather uncomfortable sleep.

Not an easy property to review. I want to be fair to management, but also to potential travelers and this is such a mixed bag. As to the hotel room itself, it is very tired but also very clean. The floor and bed both creak with seemingly with any movement, and everything in the room shouts that the property is dated and past its prime. However, cleanliness is definitely a big deal for many of us, and the resort scores well on that front. Additionally, the rooms back up to beautiful mountain views, and a stream also runs along the back of the property. There is a recently-renamed tavern on property, but we were told just before our arrival date that, during our stay, it would not be open, due to staff shortages. The more formal dining area, however, was open for business. We did not eat there. However, the one thing we will always remember about this resort is the unbelievable bar area adjacent to the formal dining room. I’m absolutely serious when I say that it is one of the coziest, most quintessential North Woods/Adirondack venues you will ever see. With a big stone fireplace, big leather chairs, and the obligatory trout fishing memorabilia, it is out of a movie. Service was quick and friendly too. In short, the rooms are tired and there are staff shortages, but that amazing bar and overall cleanliness merit a solid score.
