We attempted to have dinner here on Wednesday evening, December 20th with a party of 5. As a tradition, we like to get a little dressed up and have a nice holiday meal before Christmas. We had heard from some friends about the festive decor and as someone who works in Architecture and historical renovations, I was all in. My wife booked the dinner nearly 2 months ago. Our reservation was at 6:30pm and we arrived at 6:33. The hostess had to get our table cleaned up so we took the opportunity to get some pictures by the decorated fireplace & Christmas tree. We were sat by 6:40 in a smaller dining room off of the bar. It appeared that there was a booked party taking up the main dining room, and the bar was pretty full with a live musician playing. There were 5 other tables in the room. We waited patiently to be greeted.....a greeting which NEVER came. It appeared that there were 2 wait staff working this room, a shorter gentleman probably in his 50's and a young lady with longer hair. A table of 2 was sat probably 5 minutes after we were, and they were promptly greeted. At that point I figured that the other server must have been ours, and that they were busy handling something else. We patiently waited. In the meantime, the two servers carried out their other tasks for the other 4 tables in the room, bussing tables, offering refills on drinks, discussing dessert options, even having casual conversations with the patrons. Oblivious to the recent table of 5. After about 20 minutes of waiting, we were getting frustrated. I could see the look on my wife's face, and the kids were starting to get antsy and wondering when they could order their "Shirley Temple's". I was directing my glances towards the servers in the hopes that they would notice us and begin our dinner service. I urged patience, saying that they had to be coming soon. After a few more minutes, I told her that if get to the 30-minute mark and no one had greeted us, that we were leaving. Sure enough, that 30 minutes came and went. We stood up and got back into our coats. It had been 40 minutes. My wife was visibly upset, so I urged her to take the kids back to the car while I spoke to someone. The female waitress was at the hostess stand as we passed and we began to voice our frustrations, my wife becoming emotion due to the complete letdown of a greatly anticipated holiday dinner. I explained that we had been waiting about 40 minutes, with no greeting of any sort from her or her coworker.....all while they attentively served the 4 other tables in the room. She asked if I would like to speak with the manager, which yes; I very much wanted to express my displeasure. It took another 5 minutes for the manager to make it there as the server was having trouble locating her. I explained our experience and she was apologetic, explaining that there must have been some confusion as to whose table it was. I worked my way through college as a server for several years. In larger restaurants than this. Fine dining & casual. I understand the nuances of working on a busy night. However, the way we were treated, or should I say completely ignored is absolutely inexcusable. The manager offered to comp our meal if we would come back in. I thanked her for here offer. I was about 99% sure that my wife would NOT be coming back into that restaurant. It wasn't at all about the $$, it was about the experience. We would've easily dropped $300-400....as we had already planned our wine selections, several appetizers, surf and turf dinners, and the kids were already talking dessert. I knew that my wife was very upset (understandably so) and I went back to the car to try and console her as best I could. As expected, she did not want to take up the manager on the offer. So now we are a hungry party of 5, out in Avon at nearly 8pm......wondering where we could go for dinner. I know the one place that I WON'T be recommending in the future.....The Avon Inn! I would much rather give a good review than a bad one.....but you earned this one 110%.

After 7 hours of travel we had to find another location to sleep. Very dissapointed.

My wife and I the pleasure of staying at Avon Inn a couple of weeks ago, what a unique experience, it was like going back in time. Beautifully renovated historic 14-room inn, owner Jenn pulls out all the stops to make sure you have a great stay. Super clean and comfortable. Great home base for all the antiques and vintage shops in the area. Avon itself is a darling little village. Highly recommend!

My aunt and I stayed at this hotel Sun, 5/8. After receiving an email from the Avon Inn telling us they left the key to the front door and our room in the mailbox, we got the keys and went in. Apparently their check in is between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. At the time the email was sent to me it was about 4:15. Inside the entryway it was dark and there were no signs as to where to go. I checked all of the doors looking for an elevator. Since I could not find one, I brought our suitcases up to the second floor and found our room. After walking through the halls I realized that we were the only people in this inn! As I thought about it, I remembered that there were no other cars in their parking lot. Talk about being freaked out. I literally have never been so scared as I was in this hotel. I can't believe the owners of this inn actually put us in this position of having no one there to greet us! As it was about 10:30 at night and we were paying $200 for this room, we felt like we had no other choice than to stay. What if there had been a fire? Who would know we were there in time to get us out? We got up the next morning to go down and get breakfast - not seeing a single person and not knowing where to go for breakfast. We eventually found the room and found a few bagels, some cereal and a few bananas - no milk, no hot water and no coffee. All of this was probably set up long before we ever arrived. We never saw another person or staff member in the hotel the entire time we were there. When I went to check out the door was locked and I had to leave the keys in the mailbox. The stair chair was a joke because it goes down into a foyer which had all of the doors locked except for a door that goes to a porch which is all the way on the other side of the building from where we were parked. I called the inn several times, always getting the answering machine. Someone finally picked up the phone at the inn and I spoke to Lisa. I told her what had happened and that I wanted to talk to Jennifer. Guess what - that was Tuesday afternoon around 4:30 and I'm still waiting for a call. I wanted to give the innkeeper a chance to discuss it with me first before I posted a poor review, but as I said I'm still waiting for a return call. Never again would I stay here and we are heading back up that way in the fall. These owners are completely irresponsible. They don't answer the phone and they tell you to send an email, which I did on Sunday night and I'm also waiting for a response to that. I want the money we spent for this hotel room credited back to the credit card on file.

Had a lovely Sunday roast dinner and pudding for us both, big portions and lots of vegetables. Lovely raspberry cheesecake as dessert. In a traditional village pub atmosphere. Highly recommended. Very friendly and helpful staff.
