I don't recall exactly why I booked 2 nights at the Desert Rose Inn- probably price and location to downtown Reno. I went there for the Hot August Nights car show and this place was about 1/2 mile from Virginia St. I was told I should probably NOT walk here at night. The motel is dated, meaning a smallish room. I got 2 beds, non smoking and ground floor as I requested. I got a reserved parking space for my room right outside the door. The room featured a 26" CRT type TV, coffee maker, a microwave and a mini fridge. The nightstand between the beds had a radio alarm clock and a phone. The bathroom has a shower (no tub) and the best array of toiletries I've seen recently, including shave creme & razor, toothbrush & paste, tissue pack, loofah, combs, nail file, hand sanitizer, deodorant, lint brush along with the standard shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion tubes. .The AC unit was under the window and worked well since days were around 100+ degrees and not much cooler at night. They do have free Wi-Fi. I speed tested it and it ran at modem speed (.05mbs) and less- next to useless. I made 8 trips to the ice machine in the room with a soda machine and 2 pairs of washer/dryers. The most ice I got was a 1/4 bucket! It needs fixed or replaced. HINT I was able to make ice by filling zip lock bags with water and freezing them in the fridge. They do have a gated pool. Their office is not 24/7 as most are. After hours you have to ring a bell or go knock on the door to one of the other rooms for help. Lacy the manager could not of been more friendly and helpful when I checked in. There's a convenience store just to the east. The Gold & Silver casino and restaurant to the west for a quick bite to eat came recommended by Lacy. Would I stay here again? Probably not. Nor would I recommend it to a friend. There are others around this area, Read the reviews.

My family and I had stayed here for a full month upon arriving in Reno. We looked at all the motels down town Reno that offered weekly rates. Being close to the casinos I was very surprised that we were really safe. Lacy From the front Office was friendly and even upon a couple of occasions told us she though of us as family. The staff is friendly , and very helpful. This place is great. Lacy is always on top of things making sure the bad elements are not here. Love it !!

We loved the Desert Rose Inn. Got four rooms. One was a free upgrade. The folks who work there are all great. I'd stay there again without hesitation. Except, I'd book direct with the motel and not use getaroom nor Trip Advisor. The room was supposedly prepaid. My credit card was charged immediately. But, apparently, maybe, the motel didn't get paid by getaroom/Trip Advisor? Or, if the motel did get paid, then I got double-billed by the motel. Upon calling the motel, there was confusion. Upon calling getaroom, there was confusion. There continues to be confusion. I'm told to wait two weeks. I'm wondering if they'll ever figure it out. Or if I might need to file a disputed credit card transaction(s). In other words, the motel was great. Prepaying with getaroom has yet to prove itself. It costs more and created confusion.

I gave this place two stars because it is close to the casinos, freeway, and downtown Reno but the place itself is not very desirable at ALL. I lived here for nearly a year and the management is rude most of the time but actually rather bipolar with their up and down moods. They all know each other and are very strange, they also have mandatory room cleaning once a week where you have to leave the room. The place is full of drugs and strange people, SWAT showed up on more than one occasion. The area is also full of dope and hookers and you see it every time you leave the motel. It is right next to the Gold Dust casino which is nice and has a store across the street and fast food all nearby, very walk-able. The management just is rude, unprofessional, and always up your butt. It is cheap at $180 a week and fairly clean but the unprofessional attitude of the staff and shady area make it a no go , but for that area at that price there are not many options better

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for a family reunion in the Reno area. While the neighborhood is a little sketchy we felt perfectly safe at the hotel. Lacy (front desk) was very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. It was too cold to swim but the pool looked okay. It's an old building and needs maintenance but a family-owned hotel can't compete with big $$$ of the casinos and it takes time to make repairs and update. We knew we weren't staying at the GSR and were very happy with our stay. Carol -- WA
