Herzog Mansion

My husband surprised me with a weekend away in Hermann, and booked this hotel for us. The rest of our trip was wonderful... but the stay was.. not. We arrived, and the hostess (who was very nice) told us that our room was actually the fire escape for the 3rd floor, so we couldn't lock our room. If we wanted, we could jam a chair under the door tho. She then went on to describe breakfast. On the web site it described all sorts of tasty treats, like french toast casseroles and fresh eggs. What was being offered was about on par with a motel 6 continental breakfast. Milk and OJ left out without refrigeration for a few hours, and toast and bagels. We ended up eating elsewhere. The downstairs game room was pretty, but as you got further up the building, it got shabbier and shabbier. Our little unlockable room was tiny, and the furniture was quite shabby. We had prepaid, and we're stubborn, so we stayed there - locking our stuff in the closet when we left, and jaming the chair under the door when we were there. We also tried to not spend much time there. When we left, we couldn't find her to check out, so ended up having to leave the key on the table. It's a beautiful building. And it was obviously for sale when we were there. Maybe the next set of inkeepers will be able to restore it to its former glory. But I'd wait to stay there until that point.

I needed a place to house a group of bicycle riders and found the Herzog Mansion. As an event planner I am always nervous of anything new. They promised a great stay and they delivered. Large clean rooms which were nicely appointed. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. I will return next year. Give them a try, you will enjoy.

this is the best looking Mansion in Herman! Historic for sure. Rooms are very nice. Breakfast was delicious. It is not too far from downtown so it is in walking distance on a nice warm or cool night! I highly recommend the Herzog Mansion

Nice and clean bed and breakfast. Very friendly staff. Rooms are a good size. Plenty of free space to move about and mingle with other guest and friends. The pool table is a nice addition to the mansion.

We stayed 2 nights over a weekend. Hosts were sweet but food was very plain (Colonial white bread), powdered creamer, etc. The place was comfy but that was about all. There were dirty ash trays outside and it could have been really elegant and special but was instead mostly furnished with thrift store stuff and not artfully. Good mattress and fresh fruit for breakfast.
