Sonder At Revel

This company has been a nightmare. We booked through Airbnb months early because we were attending a conference that was in downtown Minneapolis and the location was close. We arrived at the location only to discover this location no longer was working with Sonder. Wonder has rebooked at Revel which was 2.5 miles from the original location. We called and they told us that we couldn’t check in until we scanned our ID and did a facial recognition. My partner is black and this facial recognition did not recognize her. It recognized me (I am white) without any problem. The reservation was in her name so we were out of luck. The person at Sonder was unhelpful and told us we couldn’t get the codes to enter until we completed the check in online. I am not huge on facial recognition software so this alone makes me nervous. Ended up working with Airbnb to cancel this. But it was a horrible experience and we will steer clear of any Sonder locations in the future.

Sonder is everything Air B&B is not. This is our fourth time staying in one of their properties in 3 different cities, and we have thoroughly enjoyed every one of the properties. The apartment itself was artfully furnished, immaculately clean and impeccably maintained. Even better, Sonder does not tack on any extra charges or markups, like cleaning fees. The Revel building is centrally located in the heart of Uptown less than a 15- minute drive to downtown and a 5-minute drive to Lake of the Isles. Heated Parking was also included in our reservation, although other Sonder units in the building did not offer parking. My only criticism (and that is way too strong a word for it!) is that there are no blackout curtains in the bedroom. Did I mention our total bill, including taxes, was $197.35 for 3 nights?!?!

I felt like a VIP at this facility! They do need to enforce their no smoking rule. (Marijuana smoke in the hallway almost 24/7 on the 2nd floor) The lobby is very comfortable with free coffee & tea. The room was impeccable! Full size kitchen and washer/dryer. Make sure you bring a laptop or iPad for TV casting.

Stayed at the Sonder for the second time. First time in Detroit was terrific. This location fell short. Difficulty initially getting into the parking location. The room was poorly decorated with a most uncomfortable sofa and one chair. Not the best neighborhood. Accessing television required a subscription through your phone. Really? So no TV/news for our stay.

This is a Fabulous location in the heart of Uptown. Many great restaurants, Lunds/Byerlys, walk to lake Calhoun and Lake of the isles (Bde Maka Ska) in under 10 minutes. Unit was quiet. Nice unit. Excellent price vs hotel. There is a public ramp across Lake street for around $13.00 per day. Usually street parking too.
