Holiday Inn Express & Suites Liberal an IHG Hotel

As I was leaving home for a short two-day trip, I learned my credit card had been compromised. Luckily, I had enough cash to pay for my hotel stay. Unluckily, this hotel does not accept cash. At all. Nice hotel, friendly staff, unfortunate outcome.

We stayed at this hotel going on our road trip and stopped again on our way back. We had a good stay. The first night there was a party in the lobby when we arrived and we were concerned that we would hear the noise but we were on the 3rd floor and heard nothing. Everything about the room was good except when you turned out the lights the spotlight from the parking lot shined in around the window. I fixed that with a towel and used a hanger with clamps to hold it and that worked. Second stay was on the same side but window shade blocked the light. Breakfast was very good here. Several restaurants in the area. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

We stayed here in 2022 while visiting Lisbon/Portugal for the very first time. If you enjoy walking, it is well situated as it is close to Liberdade, which is one of the most beautiful and lively streets in Europe boasting not only a wide promenade with tall trees and outdoor bars/cafes that separates north and south traffic but some of the best designer shops around. Fortunately, the hotel is in a quite area, only a block away from Liberdade's hustle and bustle. It's only about a 15-20 minute walk to Rossio, the main train station that gets you to Sintra and perhaps another 15 minutes south to the River and the main tourist area. It's also not that far a walk up into the historic Bairro Alto neighbourhood. Last time, we were assigned a room on the south-east corner of the hotel that had a nice view and a small balcony. This time, even though we booked 7 months in advance and had requested either the same room on either the same or higher floor, we were not accommodated. Instead we were assigned a lower floor and something far too close to the elevator. The room was a bit smaller but fortunately the bed was still large enough and comfortable. Not sure how our request was ignored given we had booked so far in advance. As well, it seemed that both the selection and the quality of the food provided for breakfast were not as good as our visit just 18 months before. We would like to return this hotel one day but only if things improve.

We had a very late arrival and the concierge was still kind and professional. Very clean lobby, parking lot, and hotel room. No unexpected noise or sounds, and we were able to have a later checkout. Only thing that was unclear: there is strip lighting above the bed that is on in each room. My two friends and I each had trouble finding where to turn this off before bed. It’s on a single light switch above the nightstand nearest to the windows.

Best bed that I have ever slept in . . . and I have stayed in many, many hotel rooms. Firm mattress, yet supportive. Best night's sleep in a few months. Great front desk staff. We were traveling with our dog and were treated to a great room. Dogs are $25 additional to room charges. Complimentary breakfast was not good. Scorched eggs and rubber sausage patties. They were out of bacon and butter/margerine for toaster items. We couldn't eat it so went across the street to McDonalds.
