Super 8 by Wyndham Holton

I called and made a reservation. When I checked in, later that same evening, I was told the rate was higher than I'd been quoted for my "confirmed" reservation. When I said "o.k., but I was quoted the lower rate", the desk clerk copped an attitude and said the regular rate was much higher. I had a couple other issues that night also with the room. Each time I contacted the night clerk (tall middle eastener) he was dismissive. The room was not in order. One of the lights was missing a bulb. One of the lights didn't work. The TV had limited selections and the "guide" to the channels was inaccurate. No "Do Not Disturb" sign. One was not available at the front desk, either. The breakfast was lame. A lesser version of what is normally at a Super 8. No bagels, no English muffins. So, overall, a big letdown, even for Super 8.

Rooms smelled musty and weren't very clean. Every time the ac kicked off there was a horrible noise that kept my husband awake most of the night. The breakfast was nothing to get excited about and the only half decent item they had were the waffles everything else wasn't up to par. If you absolutely need a place to stay like we did, it is doable but not the best.

The hotel is in a bit of a sketchy area....but we knew that already, and there are not any other (better) choices in the area. Property and rooms were generally clean - for the motel brand. (we travel a LOT, and have good reference). Hotel was very empty for the night we stayed. (maybe 10 vehicles in the parking lot). However there was a LOT of odd noises, and toilets flushing in the room above. Almost like construction - but all night long. (Flushing every 10 minutes which can be heard very clearly in our room below).... Entire hotel smelled like marijuana when we went in down the hall at 4am when finally had enough. For sure some sketchy stuff going on in the hotel and rooms, and no possible way the front desk staff did not know it was going on..... Stay away from this hotel in the future....

I have family in Holton and stay here occasionally. The staff is always courteous and willing to help with last-minute needs. I can depend on clean surroundings, and a quiet room. This is my favorite place to stay in Holton.

Although the property is a bit dated, everything is very clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast in the morning is just fine,. This motel has a good price and a good value,. Very convenient to be close to family members when visiting from out of state.
