Very nice little hotel. It had a balcony over the lake. WARNING /!: The lake is just a pond; not Lake Michigan. The shower curtain was a little dirty. It was over 10 minutes away from Indiana Dunes National Park/Lakeshore. It is convenient to a Walgreens.

This hotel is bare bones. Breakfast isn't included. One person is on staff and that person leaves overnight. However, though the hotel is in a busy shopping plaza, once you're inside you'll feel you're deep in the woods. Open the patio door. Right outside is Chubb Lake. It's a small lake surrounded by trees, and every room has a lake view. The name of the hotel "Waterbird Lakeside" is absolutely appropriate. The lake is teaming with geese, gulls, herons, egrets, ducks and other birds. The lake itself is home to hundreds of turtles and, of course, Chubb fish. You can sit on the balcony and look right down into the water. It's so beautiful and relaxing. A bonus: If you get hungry, there are about five restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, including McDonald's, Dominoes, Little Caesar, a Chinese restaurant and more. There is also a CVS right there. Return to the hotel, and it's like the busy world disappears. I used to go to Spring House Inn in Porter, which is also nice. But, not all rooms have a forest view and it has gotten pretty pricey. I like this hotel more. The only thing that would make it better is continental breakfast, but with Dunkin' Donuts right across the street, it isn't really necessary.

We had a nice stay at the WaterBird Lakeside Inn, the room was clean and bed was comfortable. Best part is the balcony and view of the lake- we enjoyed our morning coffee out there and late night chats. The sounds of geese in the morning might wake you up haha. Good value for the price and we were happy with our experience!

My recent overnight stay at WaterBird Inn was a complete nightmare, and I am compelled to share my experience to warn others. I wouldn't wish this ordeal upon my worst enemy, especially if they have children. Upon entering the room, it became immediately apparent that the property was in a state of utter disrepair. The room's condition was shockingly poor, with a missing mirror, stained carpets, broken counter, door that would not lock and an overall uncleanliness that left a lasting impression. It felt more like a forgotten storage room than a welcoming hotel room. Our hopes for a relaxing stay were dashed by the realization that we were essentially staying in a rundown dump. The most alarming aspect, however, was the presence of exposed electrical outlets throughout the room. With our two toddlers in tow, this was an absolute nightmare waiting to happen. It is absolutely inexcusable for a hotel to neglect such a basic safety precaution. We had to scramble to find ways to shield our children from the hazardous outlets, which was an unnecessary burden during what was supposed to be a relaxing getaway. But the pinnacle of the disaster came when I went to the front desk to voice my concerns. I was met with a scene straight out of a surreal nightmare – the front desk attendant was fast asleep at their post. I tried everything to rouse them, but it was as if they were in a coma. It was clear that customer service was not a priority for them, nor for the establishment as a whole. It's a disheartening experience when you're desperately seeking help, only to be confronted with such blatant indifference. I have asked for a full refund for my rooms and still have not received any reply. In sum, my one-night stay at WaterBird Inn was nothing short of a catastrophe. From the dilapidated room conditions to the dangerously exposed electrical outlets, and the fact that the front desk attendant was unreachable due to their slumber, I implore anyone reading this review to steer clear of this place. Your safety and comfort should be a given when staying at any hotel, and WaterBird Inn failed on every conceivable level.

This place os not up to par, especially for the price. Outlets are cracked, broke or missing covers. Red, who knows what stains on the floors. Bathroom vent was broke so that was fun steaming up the whole room. Cable box just literally hanging off the wall and half painted. Sliding door had the good ol landlord special where they just pained over it lol. The door...omg the door. It was obviously kicked in a few times as it was all cracked around the framed and had old screw holes not once, not twice...but 3 times! Can't see out of the peephole...OH YEA, THERE ARE LITERALLY NAILS HANGING OUT OF THE MAKESHIFT BATHROOM COUNTER! I have 3 kids with me...and there are (now rusty since the vent is broken) nails poking out!
