The location of this hotel is good and why I stayed there- I had a meeting at 321 N. Clark which is next door- but otherwise I wasn’t impressed. My room was fine and I liked the chaise to be able to stretch out and work but the $25 daily fee on top of the not modest room charge was ridiculous. Such a fee has become increasingly common but here what was supposedly provided for the fee was a welcome gift of popcorn but they had run out when I checked in and still didn’t have it when I asked when I checked out. I happen to like popcorn but as much as that it irks me to be told I am getting something for a fee and not getting it. A $25 food and beverage credit was also provided but the restaurant which is in the bar wasn’t impressive either. I was alone and asked for a table and was promptly seated and given a menu. The one waiter assisted some other patrons and then stood by the bar watching a ball game at the bar. Finally, after 25 minutes I got up, walked over and asked if I could order. I ordered steak frites with chimichurri butter and a glass of Pinot noir. The steak and fries were ok as was the truffle mayo that was served with them but the chimichurri butter placed on top of the steak was literally frozen. It makes sense to prepare a batch advance but the butter is supposed to melt on the steak. This wasn’t going to melt until the next day. And the Pinot noir which should be room temperature was ice cold.

I’ve stayed here several times since Jan 2025 and it’s overall a good stay with some strong positives and a few drawbacks. Positives: #1 — the fitness center & its onsite personal trainer Sam. He’s full of helpfulness and positive energy, and will customize a workout for you (and guide you thru it) on request. I’ve never had such excellent fitness support at a business hotel. #2 — location. Great neighborhood, views and walkable to all the attractions. #3 — peloton rooms. I lucked into it, but a handful of rooms have peloton in them. Drawbacks: #1 — No sparking water anywhere. Not in the convenience corner, not at the coffee shop, even at the bar, they look at you crossed and charge you $5 to spray it from the soda gun. Never stayed at a modern hotel that has no sparking water onsite. No Pelligrino, no Perrier, nothing. #2 — lobby restaurant is sad and dated, depressing. Not good vibes for hanging out. Luckily, there are plenty of great restaurants and bars nearby.

Hotel Series, Part 2 While I greatly enjoy exploring all the good things that Chicago has to offer, I understand that not everyone may feel that way. In fact, some might want to avoid the freezing temps of Winter and remain indoors as much as possible. If visiting a hotel as self-sufficient as possible is your priority then you should consider the Westin Chicago River North. From my perspective its greatest attribute is its proximity to, and view of, the Chicago River. Dependent upon your room’s location, you may be treated to terrific views that can be enjoyed no matter the hour. We found ourselves enjoying our view during countless conversations both day and night. In addition to offering great proximity to the Chicago River and the House of Blues, this property also boasts a full service restaurant, 24/7 fitness center, on-site business center, and on-site men’s hair salon. If you have access to their Executive Club I would highly recommend utilizing it as the views from the 25th floor are outstanding and their comfortable lounge, breakfast, hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and coffee/tea/snacks stations are all great additional ammenities. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #westinchicagorivernorth Photo credit 📸 @danavoros

This is a first rate hotel. I am here to take the tour of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in Metro Chicago; the location is very near the tour’s starting point. I would probably have stayed here anyway but it works. Bed is very comfortable. Shower fixtures are posh. Breakfast in exec lounge was excellent. Views are remarkable.

I went to a conference that included 1 night stay. The hotel looked well maintained, and the towels were in good condition (a good indicator of the quality of the hotel, in my opinion). The food was below expectations. The view from the conference rooms is amazing. Directly to the river!
