Tropical Winds knowingly and purposely towed my registered and legally parked car when I forgot to put the pass back on the dash. I wasn't told that they tow when I arrived, I was never given a verbal or written warning (even though I was at the hotel very early Saturday night), and they intentionally chose to tow my car instead of remind or warn me, knowing I had an out -of-state plate and I was leaving in a few hours. A racket, or just mean? The desk would not tell me if my car was towed or not Sunday morning, and would not tell me their towing company or how to contact them. I started experiencing anxiety, and another guest assisted me in finding the tow company, who only accepts cash from all customers and doesn't provide receipts, even when asked. The manager allows motorcycles to park up front without a visible pass, and had no mercy when I forgot to put mine back (they tell single women traveling alone not to display...). Even though I sent in documentation of ADHD (which is why I forgot), management refused to refund my money or allow me to contact the owners. After contacting the city, they finally offered 1/2 refund, which I agreed to, until their new general manager admitted in an email the he approved and condoned towing the cars of registered guests, and plans to continue this policy, even if his guests have visible handicapped lanyards. After three days in total (it took me hours to find all the state links to complain about unethical business practice in Florida and send them), I had to almost contact the Attorney General and Senator who lives in Port Orange. Tropical Winds finally issued the second part of the refund. If you stay here, don't stay near the garbage chute or elevators, as the noise starts very early in the morning and good sleep is not possible. Avoid the South side balconies, as they are over the garbage dumpsters. Multiple pizza places were sliding advertisements under the door, which could present an unsafe situation. Jackie at the front desk was very nice, and the housekeeper who gave me the extra tissues was very kind. The one who came when I was leaving (at least they allowed late check-out when the nice guest asked them for me because it took a long time to get a hold of the towing company each time, and then over an hour to arrive, even though they said it would be 5 minutes--- note: no waiting room, shade or bathroom and bars on a side window where they do business) gave me a lecture about the pass when I apologized for being late. No compassion from at least 3 employees until I threaten with state compliance reports. Finally, the manager agreed to revisit his new policy of towing registered guests on purpose without warning them, and called the refund an act of goodwill. I let him know what I thought I gesture of goodwill could be and received no reply. Long time guests say they adored the previous manager, who always valued the best interest of the guests. If you encounter unethical business practice, I suggest contacting the state agencies. Read the reviews on Yelp and choose for yourself. Safe travels.

Went for Daytona500 Race so of course rates were over priced. Hall ways smelled musty and had humidifiers in them, elevator doors were noisy and old, coffee pot in room made tea -not coffee and there's no complimentary coffee in lobby, safe didn't work, sliding doors didn't lock it only had a metal arm that folded out to close -although it was secure it would slide open to a small crack for bugs to get in. Only enough hot water for 2 people to shower -by end of 2nd shower had hot water full-open and it wasn't steaming hot. TV screen was very dark & hard to watch but we couldn't find a brightness button to adjust. Only 1 of 3 lobby staff was friendly and enjoyable. We stayed here many years ago and loved it; however, it hasn't been maintained very well. We were willing to pay the higher room prices for an event week but were very disappointed. We never complained or brought any of our concerns to staff because it was a short 3 night stay- we just won't go back. This property is old and has went down hill. I don't understand their 4.5 of 5.0 rating. I would consider this a 3.5 of 5.0 based on the property.

We stayed 3 nights here. We were on the top floor with a king bed and kitchenette. I found the bed a bit firm, but slept fine. Also, a couch with lounger that pulls out to a queen bed. There is a desk and swivel chair, flat screen tv, dresser drawers and charging centre for electronics. The blackout curtain to the balcony is excellent! And you can hear the ocean waves nicely. The a/c unit is quiet and works well. Bathroom is standard 3 piece, tub/shower combo; great lighting for makeup. The kitchenette has full size fridge, smaller oven/stove, microwave, toaster and coffee maker; place settings for 4, but no table to eat at… used the desk and our laps. Room has an in-wall safe to use. Nice and clean room overall. The 2 elevators are quick and there is a small rectangular indoor heated pool; also an outdoor unheated pool - we didn’t use either of them. There is an on site cafe serving breakfast and lunch, but we didn’t try it. Ample parking, well lit and large spaces.

We have stayed here about a dozen times. Two of those times being in August and July. Unfortunately we saw it go downhill really quick. This day one of our rooms was infested with German roaches. Those are impossible to get rid of. The other room that we had this stay was extremely dirty. Like it was rushed to be cleaned, hair all over, filthy floor even the hallway was trashed for 2 of our 3 day stay. The resent change in management is obvious. When asked to speak with a manager I was told they may come in and to check back. Forget about the old offers of late check out. They want everyone including maintenance and cleaning out by 3pm. Hence why the rooms are now absolutely disgusting. Pushing your staff to clean fast to save payroll is showing. Also feel like some of the staff was smoking in the closet next to our room. They make you sign that you won't smoke on property maybe the staff should have the same rules.
