My stay at the Old Tale Inn was so underwhelming that I feel compelled to share my experience to help others make an informed decision. Unfortunately, this so-called "Inn" fell far short of expectations and came across as both misleading and overpriced. Misleading Advertising First and foremost, this is not an inn or a hotel in any meaningful sense of the word. Calling it such borders on fraudulent. There was no staff presence during my stayâno front desk, no resident manager, no one to assist with even basic needs. The lack of human contact made the entire experience feel eerie and unwelcoming. Poor Directions and Uninviting Exterior The address provided was inaccurate, leading me to a dark, side street marked only by an old, defaced mailbox. The buildingâs exterior was painted a drab battleship grey, with no trim or signage to indicate it was a place of lodging. The parking lot, accessible via the main highway, was deserted, unlit, and added to the sense of abandonment. Arriving at night felt less like checking into an inn and more like stumbling upon an empty warehouse. Bare-Bones, Dreary Accommodations The room itself was stark and uninviting, reminiscent of a prison cell. Everything was grey, with minimal decoration to create any sense of warmth or comfort. The amenities were laughable: a coffee pot with no coffee or mugs, an outdated low-flow showerhead, and no clock or radio. While there was a wall-mounted TV, its placement made it impossible to view from the bedâan oversight that speaks to the lack of attention to guest needs. Poor Value for Money At over $120 per night during the low season in late December, the pricing is indefensible. This property offers none of the comforts or conveniences one would expect for that rate, even in a remote location like Leadville. In summary, my stay at the Old Tale Inn was characterized by disappointment, frustration, and a sense of being misled. For travelers seeking a welcoming and functional place to rest, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This is one âinnâ that doesnât live up to its nameâor its price

Finding the hotel was confusing. The entrance is actually from the highway and there is no signage. The room was clean and comfortable. We had a King room with all the regular amenities and towels for the hot tub. There is no one on site by design. You receive an emailed code for the lock that wonât work until the exact time of check in. I prefer having someone on the grounds at all times. They are trying to keep costs down this way. I would stay here again.

Very clean and bed comfortable. But . . . No drinking glasses. No information for wifi. No staff on location. Noisy. TV position poor for viewing. One refrigerator, one microwave, one small coffee pot for all units. Very small fan for cooling. White noise machine did not work. Extremely high price (possibly because there was a race in town and few hotels in the area.)

Okay, I'm going to state right up front that I am a 98% luxury/business traveler, having Titanium status with Marriott (sure miss Starwood), so I'm used to a certain level of comfort. When I pulled into the parking lot of the Old Tale Inn, my expectations were set pretty low. Quickly realizing there isn't a front desk, I found a note posted on the porch doors stating that if I hadn't received an email on my check in details, which I hadn't, to call a number. Daniel was very nice and found my reservation and told me my room # and 6-digit code. (Had to make sure I capture it in my phone, because there was no way I'd remember it right off the bat.) They have electronic keypads on all the doors, and that is how you get in. When I first stepped in, I was nervous about what I'd find because it was really dark. There's just one high-up window and that is shaded by the covered porch, so not a lot of natural light to be had. But once the lights were on and I got to unpacking, I was really impressed at just how clean, neat, and "together" the room was. It was well maintained (i.e. there wasn't an old toilet, moldy shower curtains, or anything like that), and was rather comfortable. They had a TV hooked up to the Samsung and YouTubeTV networks, so you could find free material to put on for background noise. WiFi internet was fast and reliable. There was even an outdoor hot tub (which I didn't really check out), a community refrigerator and microwave outside. Knowing that it's mountain rugged travel, staying here was really a great experience, even though there wasn't a club floor or turn down service. Definitely recommend.
