The M Solvang

Our room smelled like mold and bleach. The smell was so intense, that we had to leave after returning from dinner that same day. When we arrived I noticed the reception attendant draining water from an upstairs hotel room. So, I suspect that the room we were given smelled like mold because of the upstairs issue with water leaking down to the downstairs rooms. The furniture in the room was also a bit run down and the small refrigerator in the room smelled bad. Unfortunately, we could not get a refund. After 9pm there is nobody in the reception area or to answer questions. I tried calling a phone number that was on the door of the reception room and leaving messages but nobody ever got back to me. It's unfortunate because the property is very charming. It was a The M Solvang was a BIG disappoinment :(

Our first time in Solvang and my wife and I had the pleasure of staying at The M Solvang. The motel has the look and feel of a little quaint cottage. The ground are exceptionally kept well groomed, which also included the garden area. Our checking in experience was fast, the personal very friendly and courteous. Our room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable. The restroom was modernized, clean and roomy. Our rear door led out to the garden which was beautiful with plenty of seating. I highly recommend this place!

This was a real disappointment. The hotel looked quaint from the outside, but inside was not at all what was advertised or what we expected. We stayed in the Cabernet suite. It is badly rundown and in need of some significant updating. The room was not furnished like the hotel photos suggest. The words antique and charming used in the hotel’s description of the rooms should be read as old and dated. The two dining chairs in our suite were not antique and the seats were stained so badly we did not sit on them. The kitchen had very few kitchen items and it would be nearly impossible to make even a simple meal. There were a couple of plates, cups and glasses and a couple of pieces of cutlery. There was a toaster and two old frying pans. There was no pots and pans and no kettle. The cupboards were bare and quite dirty. The best part was the bed, which was OK. The rest was very unsatisfactory for a $300/ night room. Lastly, they advertise a five minute walk into downtown Solvang. In fact, the walk is twice that and an uphill grade. Give this place a pass until they do some repairs and upgrades.

When we first arrived, we thought, well, we haven’t stayed at a place like this for a long time. It seemed to be an old motel that had had various updates. Cons: room was pretty basic. Pros: good size room, bed was fine, cleanliness was fine, courtyard had been turned into a beautiful garden, and most of all, the price was right. We had family staying at the upscale place just up the street for 3x the price, didn’t see the point of wasting that kind of money in this location (faux-Danish village just not our thing, I guess).
