I visit San Francisco for a major conference every year, and I generally stay at the Parc55 or the Nikki hotel, but I could not afford it. I expected it to be bad, but the price is unbeatable for the area, so despite some trepidation, I booked 4 nights. I visited in December, and it was very cold and drafty. I bought some packing tape for the window, which made it much better. The room also had a very small heater, which did not work properly because of air in the circuit. There is a bleeding valve, so I let the air out, and then it started working better. I still used my coat as an additional blanket, and it was ok. My room had no bed-bugs, but as all rooms, only a sink and the shower/toilet shared with the rest of the floor occupants. They were both ok -- not the cleanest, but more or less what you get in a student dorm. The area was terrible, and despite being a white dude, I was concerned returning later at night. Homeless are everywhere smoking crack, and you can expect seeing syringes and crack pipes on the floor. The smell of human urine and feces on the streets adjacent to the hotels is overpowering. Wearing a mask helps to a point, but it is a disgusting smell that remained ingrained in my memory way after I left San Francisco. The management were nice, not that I asked for anything special. However, one evening when I returned after hours, one homeless followed me all the way to the entrance of the hotel. The guard on duty opened the door for me, came out, escorted me into the hotel, and sent the homeless away who was forcing his way in. I appreciated that. Honestly, I will never stay at this hotel again because even though the price is unbeatable, I will likely stay further our and simply take Uber. It is a shame because the hotel is a byproduct of the entire area. I would say that this is closer to a hostel than to a model.

The Aldrich Hotel is located in the area of Union Square, which is perhaps the best thing to say about it. The hotel, which began operating in 1910, knew much better days and is now pretty shabby. The room (with a sink) is okay, and you have shared toilet and shower on your floor. the room and the shower are clean. There is an old elevator and it is better not to use it. The immediate surrounding of the hotel is unpleasent, and there are many homeless people in the streets near by.

My son and I were sleeping, I could hear him crying. I then asked him what was wrong he told me his arm hurt and legs, I took a look at them and they were all bitten! We then looked under the mattress, there it was millions and millions of bed bugs! You wouldn't believe it. Also, w first came to the hotel I inspected the sheets (of course) and there were hairs and possibly human faeces stains, I couldn't believe my eyes! And that's not even it, they should be relocated, all I saw on my way there was homeless people probably about 12, alcoholics and drug addicts!!!!!

This place is a very basic rundown hotel. Which is fine, I wasn't expecting the earth. The room was a decent size and there was a shared toilet and shower on my floor. The bed was fine I had everything I needed. The big problem however is the neighbourhood I was in. Do you research before booking. There is a lot of homeless in the area and if you are after a romantic image of SF this will ruin it.

The hotel is in the Tenderloin and that makes for a slightly uncomfrotanle welcome and exit as the street outisde is lined with homeless people sleeping or smoking crack. It is a relief once you get inside. The hotel is by no means nice to look at and it is not luxurious, however for the moeny you are paying (for Sanfrancisco) it is not bad all. The room was basic but clean, as were the shared shower and toilets. Towels, shampoo, toilet roll, sopa etc were included. The room was not cleaned or bin emptied during our 5 night stay here, but it was fine. It can be noisy whilst you try to sleep as you can't really escape the drunks shouting in the streets. If you can afford it go elsewhere, but if you are looking for somewhere on a budget this will be okay. Just don' expect much and be careful in the area at night.
