SureStay Hotel by Best Western San Diego Pacific Beach

For the first time in a very long time, Trip Advisor reviews let me down. I was very hopeful that I had found a diamond in the rough with this place...unfortunately it was more rough than diamonds. First off, this is a MOTEL and not a hotel. Queen room was tiney tiny and was like a room from an 80's horror film. Very outdated and in need of some serious improvements. No actual closet space and there was not even outlet to plug in devices by the bed. Bed was uncomfortable and pillows had definitely seen better days. The bathroom was no better...unless you like ducking down to shower on a shower head that is no higher than 5 feet. I had a terrible night sleep...walls were paper thin and could hear everything from the surrounding rooms as well as all the commotion and rift raft from outside. I had originally booked for two days, but after getting woken up by the loudest Harley you've ever heard at 6 AM, decided that one night was enough and checked out. The property was gracious to refund the second night, which I appreciated, but all in all, outside of location and proximity to the beach and other big ticket San Diego items, buyer definitely beware.

We spent two nights in SD in late March. Check-in was quick and efficient and we were greeted pleasantly. We had a queen room. It was pretty small...okay, it was smaller than that! No closet, just a spot to hang a few things. We had both microwave and mini fridge. Everything was clean and fresh, the bed nicely firm. Shower great water pressure! What this room really needs are plugs, lots of them! With so many items to be charged these days, we really only had one place to do so, on a wall socket. Not really convenient. We didn't hear much noise from other guests so that worked out okay. We are BW Rewards Members so have done a lot of nights in their properties. Comparing breakfasts, sorry to say this one needs work. Obligatory waffles were okay and some scrambled eggs freshly made. However, no bread, bagels or toaster. We don't expect smaller hotels like this to provide made to order oatmeal, usually it's the packets, but none of that either. Short selection of yoghurts. On the plus side, the breakfast room itself is good sized with plenty of seating. Parking is free! That is a big deal with so many others in the area charging up to $30 per day. Yes, it matters and we appreciate BW for this. Not sure if we will revisit this location. It's on a busy street that did add to the noise level. Near the freeway and Mission Bay is a plus.

Location is great. Ample parking. Beds and bedding are very comfortable. Hotel desk is very friendly and willing to help with anything needed. When rooms are available I am able to check in a bit early. Wonderful breakfast selections. The only downside for me is that I cannot bring a small pet with me.

Gina, Noah and Malea were amazing. The whole experience from check in to check out was perfect. The breakfast selection was up to par and the property is kept in great shape. The location of the property was ideal as there are plenty of food and activities near by.
