Everything we needed for a good sleep. Wonderful location close to shopping and eating on the famous Olvera Street and Union Station King Size bed and good hot water. Ice and filtered water available near elevators Friendly reception. Will definitely stay here again

I only booked this place as it was near Union Station and I had an early train the next day. I didn't expect much for the price, but the reality was far worse than I imagined. Getting into the hotel was a challenge in itself as the automatic door was stuck and I had to stand there for 5 minutes until someone let me in. Check in was fine, the staff member was friendly enough. The lobby isn't particularly welcoming. Just a desk with lots of signs up- you can tell a lot about a place by the amount of poorly worded laminated signs dotted around! My room was on the 4th floor and the corridors leading from the elevators were very tired and in dire need of an update. My room echoed these sentiments. Dark patterned carpets which had years worth of marks on them, the bed was extremely hard and had a dark flowery quilt that even my grandparents would have thrown out several decades ago. There was little natural light, few plug sockets and to get to those I had to move the bedside tables revealing an awful lot of dust. The only decent bits of the room were the ensuites and the WiFi. There's mention of breakfast on booking, but it didn't appear to exist and there was another of those laminated signs covering the one which detailed the breakfast times. The hotel is in a good location for the station, Olvera Street and Philippe's, however the surrounding area is rather sketchy and didn't feel safe at night. It probably goes without saying, I wouldn't return and would much rather stay a bit further away and grab an uber to the station if I ever need to catch a train from LA again and I'd recommend you do the same!

I needed a place to stay close to Union Station after arriving at LAX and needing to take Amtrak east the next day. Metro Plaza Hotel was the place - walking distance from Union Station. The hotel itself is desperately in need of remodeling. The hotel lobby is very tired and has a flophouse vibe. A security guard lets you in. The floors are marked with dirt and old wild paper. Carpets are frayed. Signs on the wall have mispellings and the Spanish translations are barely comprehensible. Once I got to the room though, I found a very comfortable bed and working A/c. The bathroom has old tile and even a push button telephone next to the toilet. There's a TV but surprising it is in working order and has lots of channels. Cost was $135 a night plus tax. This would be a great hotel for a 1970s crime show. I kept thinking that Starsky and Hutch or Sargeant Joe Friday going to knock on the door = flash their badge and ask me - Give me the facts sir. Sadly it is no longer 1974 but 2024. Still this old bird has character - no Best Western nor Hilton for me. I like historic old flophouses with style Bonus is the Philippe's Restaurant one block away - great French Dip sandwiches.

Just checked out of the hotel and the staff are perfect they watched are bags all day and not like other places did not charge us. We arrived late on Tuesday night and the main manager was in reception to welcome us and even gave us a bottle of water each as we looked hot. The room was just redecorated and was perfect and very clean. You can see some areas of this hotel are being re done it did not affect us at all. Felt safe and the cleaning lady’s in every day to change towels and make bed. I would 100% recommend staying at this hotel it is 3 min walk from the station and that means excellent transport links to all the places you want to visit. Also most of the public transport is free. Thank you from John and Mary for a great stay.
