TownePlace Suites by Marriott San Diego Downtown

This property is not really in downtown. It’s a couple miles from the center of SD. Room was comfortable but you need to tell them when you want cleaning. Lobby small not particularly attractive. Staff were helpful and polite. The reason I would never use this hotel again is the parking situation. Parking is in a garage not attached to the hotel. You have to drag your luggage down to the main level, drag it up a short hill through the outdoor and indoor seating of a restaurant where people are eating and then into the hotel. It’s a huge PIA. Then you have to use your room key to go in or out of the lot. $35 RIP-OFF. Never again.

This is a good hotel conveniently located near the zoo. Stayed here with my husband and 2 year old for 2 nights as we were visiting the zoo. We had a king suite which was clean and well sized. The kitchen amenities were nice. We appreciated having the fridge and everything else to make the stay easier. The parking lot is the big downside - it is not connected to the hotel and is incredibly narrow and small. It’s not easy to navigate through the lanes and parking spaces, and it’s an inconvenience to have to go outside in between the lot and the hotel with your luggage. There aren’t a ton of family friendly restaurants nearby since it’s downtown. But it was definitely fine for our short time there and the staff were friendly.

Large and clean room, breakfast changing every day, nice personnel. Too bad the neighbourhood where I was not feeling really safe to walk around. I think it is though a good option in SD for a reasonable price and also well positioned to visit the different parts of the city
