Homewood Suites by Hilton Tucson St. Philip's Plaza Univ

I wanted to like this place simply for the amazing location but the negatives outweighed the positives. I booked a 2 queen suite but we were given a king suite. It was late when we checked in and I just wanted to go to sleep, so I didn't bother to request a change. The carpet was dirty and had stuff stuck on it, and the room just wasn't very clean. Came back late one night to a note that said the water would be shut off from 11PM-4AM. Our family had to hurry up and shower, and then the water was shut off 15 minutes early. In the morning, there was zero hot water available. They still served breakfast, which is a little concerning considering they couldn't wash anything with hot water. And finally, 2 days later, the hotel lost water completely and we were unable to shower before we left. I was credited Hilton Honors points, which is not even close to sufficient considering how expensive this place is. Save your money, stay somewhere else. The positives were the pool area and location adjacent to St. Phillips Plaza. The restaurants and coffee shop in the area were great.

Tired property in a great location, and except for one next to the airport, the only game in town for Hiltons with a kitchen. Our week was ... no hot water for 3 days, no water AT ALL for 2. Broken laundry. Clean room. Ok breakfast. Nice Wed evening reception. Nice pool. Front desk ranged from very helpful, professional and pleasant to Nicole, for whom any request was a heavy lift. Don't plan on sleeping in here. They empty the dumpsters at 530am, use the leaf blowers between 6 and 630. Choose which noise and view you want at night, either music and crowds from The Plaza, or the highway and strip mall. High prices for the area considering the above. We would not recommend this place.

We spent four nights at the Homewood Suites in Tucson. The all-suite hotel provided a quiet, comfortable place to stay during our brief vacation. The unit has a living room space and a partial kitchen (fridge, microwave, cooktop and dishwasher, but no oven). There is a separate bedroom that can be closed off from the living room. The bathroom was small but adequate - it had a shower but no tub. There was plenty of storage space. HVAC was quiet and worked well. We slept well all four nights. This was our first visit to Tucson. The city struck us as a sea of gut-wrenching, soul-sucking urban sprawl with miles and miles of clownishly-large streets and acres and acres of surface parking lots. It does, however, have a few islands of beauty. This hotel was located in St. James Plaza, one of those islands. It had a number of nice restaurants right across from the hotel. The restaurants share and surround a large courtyard that offers live music at night. There is also a Trader Joe's that is about ten minutes on foot from the hotel. Hotel amenities include a nice outdoor pool and hot tub, a small but sufficient fitness center, and a dining room serving a hot breakfast. It's not a gourmet breakfast but it offers the basics. There is a very nice coffee shop just steps away if you want something more than hotel fare and are willing to pay. Check-in and check-out were seamless. The free wifi worked well. Hotel staff was friendly and efficient. The hotel could use some upgrades, but the location at St. James Plaza offsets any other deficiencies. If we come back to the Tucson area we would be happy to stay there again.

The hotel is located in the St, Philps's Plaza with cool outdoor area restaurant call Reforma. The room was clean and comfortable. The room had separate bedroom from the living area which had soft bed, plus side kitchen area with full frig. The staff were all very friendly. They had a Sunday market at the plaza, which missed as we were checking little late..

My room was clean and the only time we heard other guests was from the hallway, though the AC was sometimes pretty noisy, with something pumping air even when we turned it off in our room. There is some traffic noise from the road over the bridge. The kitchen is adequate for simple meal prep, especially when one supplements it with a few utensils from breakfast. We cooked several simple meals there. Full sized fridge. The room got made up every 3 or 4 days which was nice these days. Breakfast was adequate though the microwaved scrambled eggs were a bit monotonous. There is sometimes coffee in the lobby, though this is not done as well as other Homewood Suites properties I have stayed in. The location is convenient to the north side of town, and there is a TJ's just across the bridge, as well as a good burrito place a bit further south down the road. The Loop bike path runs along the Rillito wash right behind the property, giving a nice chance for a bit of exercise on a whim. As some reviewers point out, this property does not have many of the "evening social" events but I've never found those to be more than a bit of greasy finger food and cheap wine so not a loss by me. The staff were consistently friendly. I would have no reason not to go back.
