Quality Inn & Suites Shawano WI

Hotel is pretty tired and sad and the rooms are mediocre clean at best. We checked in at 930 on a Saturday night in July and had a nice conversation with the lady working the front desk. As we walked upstairs to our room, my husband asked "do you smell that?" The smell of pot was overwhelming. We went to our room, showered and went to bed. 11:00 we woke up to the phone ringing and someone pounding on our door. My husband got up and three police officers were there, saying there was a report we were smoking pot in our room. They took one step in our room, apologized and left. Not sure why we (two 50 year old's who had talked to the lady at check-in) were pegged as pot smokers when the place reeked to high heaven when we arrived 1.5 hours earlier. The next morning we were in the parking lot letting our dog - who slept in his kennel, in the car - out and people were smuggling their dogs in and out the side door of the hotel. Did not think the hotel allowed pets. As we looked back at the hotel it was pretty obvious by the amount of decor in the windows of the main floor rooms that people are living in the hotel full time. Another turn off. Had I noticed that the night before I would have tried to change hotels.

The hallways smelled of cat litter boxes. If you're allergic to cats, beware ... Awful! Rooms were dark with poor lighting. In need of outlets on nightstands for CPAPs and phone charging. Shower water pressure was great, but the shower and curtain were old and in need of updating. I know the choices of lodging in Shawano is limited, but you may want to try another location until management decides to give this place an upgrade!

My wife and I have stayed in numerous Choice Hotels through the years. None has been like the Shawano, Wisconsin Quality Inn. Regardless of the sign on the motel I have one question. Is the Shawano Quality Inn still a franchised Choice Hotel? In a word the place inside and out shows signs of being "Shopworn." Upon check-in I learned the printer was not working. I was handed a small piece of blank note paper and told to write the make and model of our car. Check-in time was 3 PM. We attempted to check-in at 1 PM and were shown a handwritten paper highlighted in pink noting a $50 fee for early check-in. I have never witnessed an early check-in fee before. The room had a desk but no desk chair. The person who caulked the tub base in the bathroom appears to have just smeared gray caulk on the white tub side about the floor rather than cleaning up the mess properly. The toilet was extremely low, and the shower had no grab bars. Everything about the place seemed to show a lack of upkeep. The breakfast was okay with a hot egg dish plus bacon, and the staff was friendly. The cost was reasonable, but no way will we return.

For me, the room was perfect. The beds were soft and comfortable, and everything was clean! They could have cleaned a little more around the bathroom door, but I loved my stay! Also, it was quiet. Breakfast was hearty, and the staff was friendly! Since this used to be a Country Inn, even the motel looks cute! T. W.

The pool wasn't open and I was told it's in the process of being worked in for 2 yrs. Room above us was load all night both nights and front desk didn't seem to care. No soap in the room and had to request some. Ice maker didn't work and had to get ice from front desk. Room was clean but shower stained and bad patch and paint job above shower. On the outside there was definitely things needed to be done including missing shingles and siding laying on the ground. In rough shape. Staff was friendly but not very professional and lack of timely attention.
